It would be too easy to simply attribute the band‘s music to its name. Even though grindcore is one of the genres the quintet plays, GRIND stands for anything but simplicity. Ulf Diel (drums), Jan Erner (voc), Armin Dobat (bass), Bent Knudsen (guit) and René Michalski (guit, voc) have known each other for 30 years as protagonists of various Post & Noise Rock as well as Death Metal and Grindcore bands from Flensburg, Germany. They create songs filled with authenticity and heart, performed with a combination of playful precision and passion.  

But most important: GRINDs music goes beyond limitations of specific genres and clichés. The aforementioned Grindcore is joined by stylistic influences ranging from death/black metal to noise and post-rock. Sublimity and gentleness alternate with ferocity and malice, confidence set to music with despair.  

GRIND continues on their liberal path without genre boundaries, ready to take everyone with them who wants to open up to meaningful content and forms of expression.  

 

The band GRIND evolved over a long process of 20 years, bringing together the chief protagonists of various Post & Noise Rock as well as Death Metal and Grind Core bands. Brought together through a creative journey, the band reunites the north German metal scene. The result is ten songs with a multi-faceted sound and uncompromising heaviness. No overdone production needed to prove, how powerful an open-minded blend of styles can be. "Songs of blood and liberation" is limitless and furious.

The CD included everything the bands had recorded so far from the “ruins and then, Rehearsal demo" in 2004, their Self Title Ep and LP in 2006 and 2007, Architects of Death 7" ep in 2008 and their latest LP, Black Sun/Fake Gold in 2010. 41 complete tracks and this band throw some erce d-beat punk in the vein of Totalitar and Discharge.

Following several vinyl and cassette EPs, Umea, Sweden-based grindcore trio GRID unloads their relentless first full-length. Consisting of nine blistering grindcore songs with echoes of melodic crust/d-beat, "Livsleda" was recorded and mixed by Andreas Gren at Lillhouset Prod., mastered by Christoffer Lindmark, and finished with artwork by Daniel Wikstrom. The album will definitely appeal to fans of NASUM, ROTTEN SOUND, SAYYADINA, AFGRUND, WAKE, TRAGEDY, MARTYRDOD and the likes.

The end game, the final unit. The last GRIDLINK record. Recorded over five days in Kyoto, Japan, “Longhena” is a twenty-three minute grindcore opus made real through the emotional ferocity and painstaking calculation of Jon Chang (DISCORDANCE AXIS), Bryan Fajardo (PHOBIA, PLF, KILL THE CLIENT, NOISEAR), Takafumi Matsubara (DISCORDANCE AXIS, HAYAINO DAISUKI) and Teddy Patterson (BURNT BY THE SUN, HUMAN REMAINS, HAYAINO DAISUKI).

Awe-inspiring musicianship, landscapes of shred, atonal and melodic at once, blast-beat hypermania and vocals screamed from the bottom of a personal and illustrated hell. This is the one you’ve been waiting for. The one that makes the body ache.

“Longhena” is for anyone sick with melancholy, and those who wish to obliterate the world with music.

At war with false noise: After taking bloody ages to decide on how to do the packaging properly finally this record is ready to drop! Grimpen Mire are one of the finest heavy bands in the UK right now and came on to my radar several years ago when I saw them playing the 1 in 12 in Bradford. This is "sludge" in that it's properly heavy and has tons of dissonance and screeching feedback, but these guys are from the "Sabbath home" of Birmingham and aim to hit you with the same bleak, grey life view that was so brilliantly captured on that opening toll of the first Sabbath record. There's not a stoner riff, a groovy chorus or an "ooh yeah" anywhere to be heard here (thank fuck!), this is entirely dense, negative doom metal.

Taking the untouchable template of Winter, Hellhammer and Frost, slowing things down a bit (though there are a few pacy moments here) and turning it up past 11 with a real indutrial town mentality is what these guys are all about. It seems the downer doom bubble has popped and everyone's taking on these current hard times by llstening to party riff bands, but I get the distinct impression Grimpen Mire don't really give too much of a fuck about that.

Grindhead Records is frantically frothing at the mouth to unhinge the utterly destructive 3 way split between Grog, Roadside Burial and Pussy Vibes. Two of Portugals finest have teamed up with one of Australia’s death/grind heavy weights to produce a decimating slab of blasting insanity.

Grog starts these intense proceedings. These seasoned grindcore stalwarts have been around since 1991 and are at the forefront of the Portugal extreme scene. Their earlier material had more of a straight forward grindcore approach but throughout their career consisting of over 8 releases, they have incorporated more tech and brutal death influences – think Gridlink meets early Morbid Angel and Origin. This matured, tight and ferocious sound is no more evident than on the 5 intense ear blasting tracks and one absolutely shredding cover of Nuclear Assaults track "New Song". Grog have delivered in every possible way. In Grog we grind!

Next up on the chopping board are Sydney’s own purveyors of crushing sludged-out death grind, Roadside Burial. Already having 2 splits under their belts with Corpsickle and Exhibit A and featuring members of Volatile, Bludgeoner, Fuck Oath and Miscreation. Roadside Burial has upped the ante big time on their 9 tracks of their Napalm Death / Terrorizer inspired death/grind. And for the first time with organic bowel quaking drums care of Macca of Granny Fist. The crunching violent guitars, gut wrenchingly distorted bass and deep guttural vocals have now made Roadside Burial into one massively heavy obliterating grindcore monster.

Last but not least comes another one of Portugals immensely killer grind units in the name of PussyVibes. These deranged men of porno loving, gore-laden, ass-kicking grindcore have been schooled in the fine art of bulldozing groovy grind madness. Influences such as Dead Infection, Regurgitate, Cock and Ball Torture and Blood Duster will give you the exact impression of where these pussy obsessed mental gore merchants are coming from. Their extraterrestrial themed tracks of beyond catchy groovy gore grind are coupled with a double vocal attack of pitch shifted gargling growls, ear piercing grunts and tight powerful compositions have insured PussyVibes to finish off the split in style!
